Black And White For Summer
Few things are truly black and white; but style is + I’m loving the black and white duo for summer. As an authentic black on black, or white on white girl; both are prevalent staples in my wardrobe. I style myself around my mood, so as the even keel kinda girl I am, I enjoy swaying comfortably between black and white with a multitude of grays and camel in between. During cooler months, I sway towards clean, classic black pieces. My go-to, a tailored black suit with a black tank, funky belt and yes, a classic black pump or booty. Pointy toe and a skinny heal: an absolute must! The pointer the toe and skinnier the heal, the more confident I feel. As the weather warms, there’s nothing more exhilarating than crisp white, especially in the season’s beautiful lace. I marvel at everything lace, from a right at the knee, a-line dress to pencil skirts with a nude underlay.
As soon as I came to grips with adding color to my lineup, I’m spellbound by the beautiful juxtaposition of the summer’s hottest hues: black and white. On every runway of my favorite brands from Alice+ Olivia to J. Crew, models piled the contrast on head-to-toe. Certainly, a black and white combo is nothing new; the season just perfectly pairs the two and it’s a fab go to. Rather rocking them separately with a black and white striped belt as a transitional piece, or head to toe block in one color accented with a stiletto of the other, you can’t go wrong. I’m not as adventurous as head-to-toe horizontal, and vertical stripe at the same time; but, I’m experimenting and enjoying the look. This week, I’ve done black and white twice already. I layered my all white, eyelet dress with my boyfriend cut- black blazer, pumps and a crystal statement necklace. Then I rocked my black cigarette pant with a crisp white button down, a cow print skinny belt and black thong sandals. Yes, easy + breezy and chic. Who knew a brandista could have so much fun with black & white? Not to mention, the duo proves eye-catching, clean and refreshing.
Black And White Can Be Elongated & Flattering
I get it, no one wants to look like an NFL ref, so go easy. No head to toe stripes, or doubling and tripling up on patterns as we’ve seen on some runways. But, enjoy playing with your options and be creative. Opt for elongated and flattering verticals that play up your natural waist. Add a pop of color to your lips, a chunky statement necklace and a lil’ bling to your wrist + let the summer fashion fun begin.
Black And White Stripes: A Yes
Yes, black and white stripes are an oldie, but no doubt a goody. What interesting black and white fashion pairings have you made?
